Doug First Flight, Minneapolis, MN (1973).

In the summer of 1973 I flew to Minneapolis to join a Lutheran youth group from St. Paul who had planned a two week trek cycling around Northern Minnesota and Wisconsin. This is me at the airport in Minneapolis, having just completed the first leg of my first commercial airline flight ever.

Here's the original photo. I bought this comfortable Mao-like suit at a night market in Chiang Mai, Thailand. It was perfect for sweltering Chicago. One day I'll reproduce this suit - but with a better fit.

At the end of 2002 I quit my job with Pacific Bell, come SBC, and spent the preponderance of 2003 traveling around Southeast Asia with a guitar and a backpack. In West Sumatra, Indonesia I happened on an opportunity to teach at a private English language school, in a small town called Batusangkar, located near the former seat of the Minangkabau royalty, in exchange for room and board. Upon my return to the States, inspired by the experience, I decided to get a SIT TESOL Certificate, and spent a month attending a course at DePaul University in Chicago. Here is a photoshopped work of me created by one of my fellow students.
