First They Killed My Father is a film by Angelina Jolie that's based on the 1999 book by Loung Ung, a childhood survivor of Cambodia's brutal Pol Pot regime. I read the book, an unforgettable narrative of war crimes and desperate actions, when I was traveling around Cambodia in 2003.
